l just got started in reloading and l was wondering what type of bullet could l use or if l could use a pointed bullet sence im using a bolt action. and if any 30 cal .308 diameter bullet is ok to use in reloading?

It is not the action but the magazine that determines whether u can use spitzer bullets. There r not many bolt action rifles with a tube magazine, but they do exist. If u have the more typical Mauser-type rifle with a box magazine, then u can safely shoot spitzers. But before u decide u can load just any .308'' bullet, u have to keep in mind what you're planning to do with it. A lot of 30 caliber hunting bullets r heavily constructed for higher-velocity cartridges, & u wo not get the expansion that u would with more modern cartridges pushing them to higher velocities.

As far as using pointed bullets in a .30-30, that is fine to do when you have a box magazine. l suggest using the more softly constructed bullets out there like the Nosler Ballistic Tip, Sierra, Speer, Hornady for hunting deer to help ensure expansion, mostly in 150gr weight to keep velocities decent. Any of the bullets designed for use in single shot pistols would be great too.

l like to use 170gr Silvertip bullets but l am loading for an old Winchester with a Tube Magazine. If you are loading for a Bolt Gun you can use any .30 caliber / .308 dia. bullets you like. You may need to try several before you find one that shoots well in your firearm. Trying different powders and primers is something else you can '' Play'' around with too.
