are you most afraid of crossing paths with?
for me, its wild hogs and rattle snakes..and i've come close to getting hell from both, but been pretty lucky, how bout you?
on a side note, LOL it wanted me to post this in Food & Drink > Vegetarian & Vegan Mtn man, i've thought of that...good thing l carry a gun in the woods huh?
i've also thought of people trying to hide their moonshine or pot plants with human traps (yeah...that really happens)

A deranged human bein' like in '' Deliverance''..LOL!!! Hey Peta, l dont know where you're at but an ol' boy told me them shiners would remove part of a tree trunk, like cut a square in it and place the stuff in the tree and put the wood back over it! Like a plug../ out here in the mountains them crazy is do exist and you must keep an eye out for the occational plantation but they've usually been harvested by september. l do look for trip wires though!

Well there is not that many dangerous animals here in BC, but I'd say a Grizzly Bear or a Black Bear Sow with cubs would be pretty scary. Cougars can be quite scary as well.
EDIT: oh totally forgot, an imatture idiotic human with a gun, one of those hunters that shoot at anything that moves.

I've actually been out elk hunting, come back to the truck to find a notice the Forest Service left warning about grizzlies in the immediate area l was in. Would hate to stumble on one unexpectedly.
Know how to tell the difference between black bear crap and Grizzly crap?
Grizzly smells like pepper and has little bells in it.

Not many in Michigan, we have wolf and black bear but a shotgun would fix that. The one l fear most overall is mountain lion. they take you from behind and from what l have heard they do not fear humans.

l heard one time that when u r camping, u do not need to worry about all the animals u hear making noise. Anything that will eat you, will stalk u silently. When l am hunting, l do not worry too much about the big bears, they attack from the front, & at least l will have a chance to defend myself. Not so sure about a mountain lion. The neighbor had one a few months ago that ended up in his basement. The rumor is he did more damage with the rifle than the cat did. They r blistering fast, silent & deadly. A big cat could have u dead before u knew u were under attack.

In the Guadalupe and Sacramento mtns l worry about Mountain Lion. l have been stalked twice. Only one was really hungry and two rounds from my .357 did not even slow him down. My buddy got him with a 12 ga rifled slug.

Humans. I've said for years that one of those bullets whizzing over my head while out hunting is going to find me.
l am also a little cautious about rattlers. I've been hit twice, but only one got into the skin. It was hours before l got to medical care and the effects were minimal, so we decided to not take my once-in-a-life dose of anti-venom.

Rattle snakes and porcupines Seems like l almost always step one a porcupine and when that bush that you stepped next to runs away it sure gets the old heart pumping.

You would think since l have lots of brown bears around me that they would be the only thing l feared most in the woods. But in truth the mother moose is right up there on the list! The reasons for this r that if u pitch a tent a bear will walk around it but a rutting bull moose or a mother moose may just go right over it. Also if u r in thick vegetation in a river bottom here there r places u can’t see 20 feet ahead of u & if u get too near a calf moose, momma will stomp the livincrap out of you!
When l lived in Arkansas what scared me most was copperheads & water moccasins. l remember many times l had close calls with them. The reason they scared me is because l was bit by a cotton mouth when l was a boy & it darn near killed me, got very sick. l made a point of blowing them into next Tuesday with whatever gun l had on me.

Holy crap.LIL Buggy finally said something funny. Anyways, here in w.central Wisconsin, the only thing u need to watch ur step is a mamma black bear & the gap between her & her cub. Wolves r getting quite populous, (unfortunately) & coyotes r plentiful, but l have never heard of a wolf or coyote attack & the black bear attacks r slim to almost none. There was one nasty attack around here last year, but the odds of it r sparse. When l camp on my land, we found a family of 3 bears.a one year old, & It is mom & a cub. We saw them virtually every time we went out, but we would end up just admiring each other from a distance of about 50 yards. l do carry my .45 on my hip & the shotgun is next to the wife. It is always exciting to see them & watch them grow as long as they mind their business & so far (knock on wood) they have. They r beautiful animals, & as soon as l get my bear tag drawn, l will know exactly where l am hunting!!

Mountain Lions, since we are in there food chain if they want us to be, l guess that is the same for bears and other large carnivores but ive heard mt lions are not that scared of humans if you stumbled up on one,, l could be wrong but im keeping clear of them

The animal l am most fearful of is the inexperienced hunter that shoots at anything that makes sound.

i'd hate to come across a boar hog, a cotton-mouth, a indigo snake, a black racer & a corse-whip (the last 4 r snakes for people who ai not from South Georgia, & its illegal to kill a indigo snake too)
all those r so aggressive and/or territorial & a corse-whip snake will warp around ur legs & there is something on their tails that is just like venom, & indigo snakes r VERY VERY fast (no lie bout that) & cotton-mouths & black-racers will chase ya too. black racers & indigo is r so fast, & if ya run over them in a truck, 4-wheeler, it wo not kill em either because of how they can flatten their selves out.
i'd also hate to come across a timber-rattler or a diamond-back because of how big they can get- both can get over 5' long & timber-rattlers do not have rattles & they look just like a stick. i've killed a 5' diamond-back with 14 rattles on it & it over 4'' around too, that dern snake was so freakin huge! lol

Speaking from my hunting experiences in West Virginia, l would have to say the copperhead. Rattlers do tend to give warning, but some do not contrary to popular belief, they do not always rattle. But the copperhead does have a tail that wants to rattle, but does not have any rattles on it lol. there have been reports of big cats, but the DNR says that do not exist in the mountain state anymore. Black bears here ar not very aggressive but r curious & curiosity with cubs can spell danger. there r a lot of coyotes now in these mountains. A single coyote does not pose much danger but a pack sure does. My uncle lost a great rabbit beagle to them. But hands down, the mean, slithering, nasty, copperhead definitely needs anger management down here lol.
