yes, hit them in head and its a easy kill.

.17 HMR will take fox and coyote . but it is all about shot placement.

l liked shooting .17 in Michigan. Most of my predator shooting happened in hay feilds with pretty good windrows or trees that broke the wind. Out in Oklahoma .17 is to light to buck the wind. and barbed wire fences dont make much of a windbreak.

.17 is a great round if wind is dead calm, otherwise your shooting a one pellet shotshell IMHO

a 17hrm is plenty enough power to take down a coyote without any wind but if the wind is blowing really bad you might get a shot at 50yds max. also with a .17 if you do not shot them in the head be prepared to track them down. l recommend using like a 223, 22-250 any rifle like that will drop them in there tracks. if your after the pelts to the 223 is your best bet because it really does not mess up the pelt at all. good luck hunting!

At short range, with proper bullet placement, absolutely. l know a guy that killed a bull elk with one. l would never recommend that, but it was the only gun in the truck when he happened up on it (it is legal also in MT, no minimum caliber). My brother in law used his to kill a couple of antelope. In my opinion, these guys went way beyond the power level of the hmr, but neither lost any animals, & the kills were remarkable quick & humane. l would never recommend a hmr for big game, but it has been done. A coyote is a walk in the park compared to these animals.
