What can you tell about a guy/gal by observing their hunting rifle?
some guys commented on our rifles when my friend and l opened our rifle bags at the range one day.''These guys kill stuff''was the remark that inspired my question.

That they are carnivorous conservatives.

what ever you read into it. l see people with beautiful rifles that can not shoot for !&? and have no clue how to hunt.

The type and age of a rifle could give you an indication of whether they're new to the sport or an old hand.

How clean and well maintained it is can give you some idea of how they treat their tools and in general whether they're fastidious or a slob.

l have so many, and they are all different. Maybe that means you could tell l have multiple personality disorder?

l can tell that if they buy say a Weatherby and put a 50 dollar tasco on it that they half-a** things they do in their life, as opposed to someone who has a rifle that has been smith bedded, the trigger done, lugs lapped, scope rings lapped, to me they would be a very thorough person that pays attention to detail.

A safe queen tends to mean more money than sense but not necessarily. A well worn tricked up (I.E trigger worked, bedded, floated, stock modified to suit them best, balanced, with a top line, for the intended purpose,scope) is always a good sign of a marksman but again not a given. A bloke who gets what he is chasing with the roughest heap of junk (to look at) on earth, is always a skilled hunter. Those who hunt with a bow & only use their rifles for vermin destruction r highly skilled stalkers but not necessarily the best shots (though they should not be under estimated). The guy with the sweetest bench rest rig is normally so anally retentive it is not fun anymore. The guy with the most ''tacticool'' rig with crap hanging off it everywhere is normally a joke. The guy with one rifle that he knows inside & out is one to respect. The guy that can take anything & make it suit his purpose is a true marksman. This is just my opinion.

well sounds like a idiot. when l am around someone new hunting l can tell buy the way he handles his or her rifle if they have any expirence and are safe to hunt around. and by the way they handle it and care for it will tell u if there a slob. a good hunter is safe and that is easy to see buy watching them carry or load it.

l would rather look in his freezer and also see what was mounted on his walls.
i have seen just about every condition and combination of equipment that people use .
many talk a good line of b/s but when it comes down to it just because they have the tools does not mean they know how to use them.
no more than a guy with $5000 golf clubs that cannot hit the ball.
Taxidermy and freezer meat tells the story as well as holes in the ten ring.

If you heard that from me it would be said as a compliment meaning that your gun looked well used instead of the safe queen target rifles l have

l think you can tell more by what they wear than what they shoot
These days l see the same ole same ole day after day

you can probably tell by the type of equipment he uses. A smarted seasoned hunter wo not just be stocvk full of the high priced gimmicky equipment, he will have the hardcore and some old school equipment

Well you can always tell a lot by a man is tools. How he cares for them or not, How he handles them or not. Does he have the good stuff or is what he carries flashy trash. My granddad said a good man will take better care of his guns than he will himself. Those guns will feed a man when a man can find no work.

As others have said - too many variables to make conclusions w/o resorting to at least some assumptions. Sometimes l dont clean mine for several days. l am not recommending/condoning that practice, but l have 2 jobs & 5 kids & sometimes s**t happens.

EXCEPT - though l have killed/eaten more deer than l can count, l have never had any mounted. Probably never will. In fact, l have only kept one pair of antlers. And those r used for rattling.

Not much l would think. There might be some merit to the thought though.
