The one bear l got was pushed up to me during a deer drive. Since l bagged that big guy l have wanted to start bear hunting. I am really trying to make an effort this year. Our bear season begins Sept. 1st and ends in the middle of november. The property l hunt on has two corn fields. One, below the road, is just up from a brook. The one above the road (where my some kind of cousin has shot ones before) has a mountain above it and a nice ravine funneling up to it. Bear have been taken above and below the road in recent years, and deer move back and forth, so maybe bear do too? l would hunt out of a tree stand. Which would be a better place to sit? Also, should l sit on the field edge or back further into the woods? l would wanna be within bow range, but l do not care if l use my bow or rifle. Are bear like deer in the way that they come out in the morning and at night? Thanks.

You didnt mention where but the basics for bear r the same as deer. In the fall bears want to fatten up for winter. l some areas they hybernate in others they dont. Find the food u will find the bears. For instance there is no better teacher than the stomach contents of the bear u all ready got. What was in his stomach ? most likely the same time of year next fall the bears will be eating the same thing. Also rember bears r generally solitary so an area that supports 100 deer might only have a handful of bears. Thats why in the U.S. in non baiting areas most bears r killed by deer hunters who happen to see one just like you.

If you hunt in a treestand and it is legal to bait, that is your best bet. Bear are smarter than you think, and if you move or make noise they will spook. If you can bait, get donuts, frosting, anything sweet. The bear will come to eat, and it will stay there giving you the time to shoot.
