if l place it out at 5pm will l have deer within the evening for viewing, or will it be days? ( there is snow about 4 inches below my knees or less and l havent seen deer tracks since all of the heavy snow we have recieved)

Honestly, it could range from a couple of hours, to never. Just depends on whether the deer are nutrient deficient. In the type of snow fall that you say you have I'd think that food (browse) would be the think they are looking for the most. I'd suggest corn or some other protein rich food over salt.

deer season is..well anyway use sheep salt with selenium and spread it out over the area like chicken feed. Also in snow climates if you plan ahead you can lay a tarp over grass then remove tarp after snow and draw deer for miles.

you will have the deer coming the next day, 5 pm is too late to get them to come out, at least before it becomes illegal, it can not have any human scent on it, snow should not effect it, and you can try bagging it in a small burlap bag, lets the scent out, but most of the moisture out, the worst enemy of salt.
