l just purchased the Glock model 20 earlier this week, and was interested in purchasing the 50 caliber conversion kit for it. Does anyone know anything about the 50 Gl round?
At 700 fps, will a 300 grain hollowpoint be able to penetrate thick clothing and human flesh to reach vital organs?

Should kill the heck out of them. Clothes would have to be 12 inches thick or more.

This does not ssound like a deer hunting weapon. Just why would anyone need this information? Are they hit-men with the Mafia? They strike me as very dangerous people.

yes the 50 gi has beenin development for a while ,,, a whooper stoper,,, hordandy has came along with cc spec ammo it looks bad!!!!!!!!!!!

The conversion costs more than a new Glock. l would be better armed with a Glock 20 in 10MM driving premium 180 JHP bullets than the double expense of the pistol + conversion and very hard to find 50 cal ammo. Now let is look at the ammo expense.

GIMICK stick to the 10MM.

This is the first I've heard about the .50 G l caliber. l think $595 is a lot to pay for a conversion & l do not see any need for such a caliber. l have never seen it in any of the stores where l have bought any ammo. l suspect that u will have to load ur own ammo. Even if it is available commercially, it will be quite expensive. You may find yourself in the same position as many of the folks who bought the Desert Eagle chambered for the .50 AE. Most soon sold them because they could not afford to shoot them. The .45 acp is much cheaper to shoot & is an outstanding manstopper. Nobody shakes off a .45 bullet & keeps on coming so why go to something as expensive to shoot as l am sure the .50 G l is.

I've seen it around for a while, but l do not know much about it. The .400 CorBon seems to be pretty popular, but l am not sure why.

l would imagine that a 700 fps 300 grain would do the trick. l doubt if it being a hollowpoint is going to help much because u typically need more velocity to reliably open up a hollowpoint. The .45 ACP can hump 900 fps easily, & they're notorious for NOT opening reliably. Then again, most .45 is do not need that much expansion. It is a spiffy round as is.

What u have NOW is one of the best self defense combinations going, honestly. The 10mm is one of the best rounds out there for self defense, & u have possibly the best platform ever made for it. The 10mm has a bit more energy than comparable .45 ACP loads, & their high velocity ensures much more reliable expansion. l carry a G20 but, to be fair, l carry a PT-145 in .45 ACP, as well. Both rounds r more than acceptable for self defense.

The 10mm has an undeserved reputation for being uncontrollable as well as ''over penatrative''. l do not find the G20 particularly hard to control, & studies I've seen show the 10mm is penetration is similar to that of a .45 ACP & less than the .357 Magnum. Check me on that, though.

Also, contrary to popular belief, just getting hit by a .45 or 10mm is not going to ensure immediate incapacitation or death. Just getting hit by a .45 or .357 Magnum does not cause a person to burst into flames or magically stop moving. Shot placement is critical. You can drill someone 2 or 3 times with a .45 in the stomach or lung, & they could linger on to fight 5 seconds to a minute or two. That is a lot of opportunities for THEM to pull the trigger back. On the other hand, a good heart shot with a 9mm or even a .32 could turn their lights off.

No practical handgun is a reliable one shot kill if u take placement out of the equation. Handguns, in comparison to long guns, r generally much weaker therefore they require much more training to be efficient killing machines.

l am NOT saying a .45 ACP is not effective. l am saying it is not magical. It is not a sure fire '' l hit him so he is dead no matter what'' round. Pick a good round (.45 ACP, 10mm, whatever), & then put it where it needs to go . . . followed by one or two more rounds to be sure.

Unless you are rich and want another toy just leave the Glock 20 as is and be glad you have a great pistol. It has more than enough power for anything you need including the possibility of having to stop a charging cape buffalo in Africa with one shot like Ted Nugent did with his Model 20.
My other 10mm, a Glock 29, is in my pocket now. l trust the 10mm every day as my self-defense round.

well to answer ur question yes it will penetrate & u can beef it up by handloading but in all honesty the 10mm r used as a competition target round & hunting for a very good reason, it will protect u in bear country & win competitions, dont run after the newest trend, stick with that 10 then later if ya want more power get a desert eagle in 50AE or a revolver in .454 casull, or a .480 ruger the reason for these calibers & not the .460 or .500 is u get 6 shots with the 480 & 454 but only 5 with the 460 & 500 plus it wont kill ur wrist

The .50G l is a round which is too slow, too expensive, too difficult to find anywhere, & just does not have enough (if ANY) advantages which make up for these shortcomings.

The 10mm rounds will be much more powerful than .50GI- in fact, many .45 ACP loads r more powerful than .50GI, which only has the distinction of making the largest entry hole possible (with hollow points which will almost certainly fail to expand at 700fps or less).

If u want to play with ur Glock, buy a Glock 21 slide for it in .45 ACP. u will have a handy dual caliber pistol, & .45 is cheap to shoot compared to 10mm (and much easier to find).

l have a suspicion that if u think .50AE is expensive to shoot, u will have a surprise coming with the price of .50G l loads :)
